Colneis
Flower Club celebrated it's 25 year anniversary in November 2009. But how
did it all start?
In
1984 there was an afternoon flower club in Felixstowe called Felixstowe Flower
Club.
Kay
White who belonged to that club felt that in order to accommodate young working
women at the time it might be beneficial to discuss forming an evening club.
Initially
Kay White, Ivy Grindrod, Julia Wiggins & Joan Clarke got together to discuss
the viability of forming an evening club.
And
so Felixstowe Evening Flower Club was formed.
It was decided to hold club meetings at The Old Felixstowe Community
Centre on the third Thursday of each month at 7.30pm.
The
first elected committee was Julia Wiggins, Joan Clarke, Kay White, Pauline
Chadwell, Pat Barr, Val Benns, Pat Ranson, Margaret Price & Giovanna
Roberts.
The
club became affiliated to NAFAS in April 1985 & Alan Smith was the 1st
demonstrator on the15th November 1985
In
December 1987 it was decided to change the name to Colneis Flower Club to avoid
confusion with the Felixstowe Flower Club, which met in the afternoon.
And
here we are today, 25 years on with a thriving membership of 70 members.
To
celebrate our anniversary we held an open meeting on November 19th 2009 at the
Spa Pavilion Theatre, Felixstowe. The Bloomesbury Boys entertained an
audience of 560 people & a selection of photos can be seen below.

At the AGM in January 2010 members celebrated our Anniversary with a
wonderful birthday cake which was made by one of our Founder members Doris & beautifully iced by Jean. Naturally we had a few glasses of bubbly to wash
it all down.
